LINCOLNTON, N.C. (WBTV) – Friends and family are heartbroken after 18-year-old Austin Washington drowned at Lake James in June.
They hope his death is a wake-up call about water safety in lakes and pools.
His best friend, Armando Aviles, said Washington told him he was going swimming with friends — and then everything changed.
