Rx Kids expansion targets some 780 births a year with cash prescriptions in Calhoun County

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — Families in four Calhoun County communities can now receive direct financial support during pregnancy and the few months after a baby is born through a statewide program aimed at improving health outcomes for mothers and infants.

Beginning July 1, 2026, eligible families living in Battle Creek, Albion, Springfield and Sheridan Township can enroll in Rx Kids. It’s a maternal and infant cash prescription program that provides $1,500 during pregnancy followed by $500 per month during a child’s first six months of life.

Leaders behind the initiative announced the expansion Monday during a press conference in Battle Creek, saying the program is designed to help families facing financial hardship during one of the most critical stages of life.
