Residents living in Austell may see an increase on their property tax bill this fall as the Austell City Council considers keeping its millage rate flat, despite rising property values.
Last July, the Austell City Council approved a 158% property tax increase, raising the city’s millage by five mills, from 3.25 to 8.25 mills. The vote was 5-1, with former council member Meredith Adams in opposition. Mayor Ollie Clemons said the increase was intended to stabilize finances and attract and retain employees.
Even though the council is proposing to keep the millage rate flat at 8.25 mills for the upcoming fiscal year, if approved, the city is expected to collect more property tax revenue because of rising property values…
