City of Canyon notes street, square closures for Independence Day celebrations

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The City of Canyon announced upcoming closures for the holiday weekend to accommodate the July 4th parade, Firecracker mile, Fair on the Square and the fireworks show.

According to city officials, the City of Canyon, Canyon Police Department, and Canyon Fire Department are working closely with the Canyon Chamber of Commerce to plan a safe Independence Day for both residents and visitors.

Amarillo Zoo and Sanctuary host first summer camps

Officials noted the following closures expected on Friday and Saturday:

  • Friday, July 3
    • NO parked cars on 4th Avenue from 38th Street to 11th Street starting 3 p.m. (through end of parade on Saturday)
    • Square closes to parked cars starting at 3 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday
  • Saturday, July 4
    • 4th Avenue will be closed to traffic from 38th Street to 11th Street from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Controlled crossings will be available at 23rd Street.
    • 15th to 17th Street will remain closed until the end of Fair on the Square (approximately 3 p.m.)
    • Paul Lindsey Park will be OPEN this year, with the exception of one side street off Field #4. The parking lot at the entrance of Paul Lindsey Park will be closed for food trucks.
    • ANY cars parked inside the park must be parked legally, meaning on a street or in a parking lot, within the lines, not double stacked
