LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Construction on a new medical arts complex began on Monday in Latham. Officials gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of the $50 million medical facility.

Built by BBL Medical Facilities and designed by HCP Architects, the facility will be two-stories tall and cover 50,000 square feet. It will house a multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center with four operating rooms, orthopedic urgent care by Capital Region Orthopedics and ophthalmology services by Saratoga Ophthalmology.
The new complex aims to expand patient access to advanced surgical procedures, specialized orthopedic treatment and same-day care. It is situated within the growing Wellness Way medical campus.

Representatives from the Town of Colonie, Albany County and Columbia Development Companies joined physicians and healthcare leaders at 4 Wellness Way for the groundbreaking. Albany County Executive Dan McCoy spoke on the importance of expanding health services in the region.
“As healthcare expands throughout the country and is the number one topic with everyone, one of the biggest issues I get from my constituents all the time is, ‘Why do I have to go to New York City? Why do I have to go to Boston?’” said McCoy. “To see another facility this way, to grow even more, to have four surgical offices, to have all the services they’re going to offer here, so people can treat their loved ones here, their friends here, drop them off, great quality of care — that’s what we need.”…
