A Heat Advisory is in effect for Walker County and surrounding areas through 8 p.m. Tuesday as hot temperatures and high humidity create the potential for dangerous heat conditions.
The advisory includes Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Gordon, Murray, Walker, and Whitfield Counties. Officials say heat index values could climb as high as 106 degrees during the afternoon hours.
