Shopping center plan advances to council

The Fontana Planning Commission recently approved a plan to construct a 98,783-square-foot shopping center near the southwest corner of Duncan Canyon Road and John Previti Avenue. The commercial district plans to bring a large grocery store, various retail shops, a restaurant, a gas station and other amenities to the larger Ventana Specific Plan area.

“The project includes the following application (for) a text change of the Ventana Specific Plan to include gas stations and drive-throughs as conditionally permitted uses within Planning Area 4,” Planner Alexia Barberena said. “The amendment language includes a maximum of two drive-throughs of any kind.”

The shopping center is part of the larger Ventana Specific Plan, which currently does not allow gas stations or drive-throughs, which the commercial campus will require. With approval from the Planning Commission, the request will be advanced to city council for the final say. The applicant, The Previti Group, plans the shopping center to include a 57,185-square-foot grocery store, approximately 36,340 square feet of retail shops, a restaurant, gas station, convenience store and two additional drive-through businesses on its 11.5- acre project site.
