4th of July and Fireworks – Please Be Respectful and Remember Your Neighbors

As Oregonians make plans for the holiday, they’re urged to check local rules and restrictions on both the sale and use of fireworks—whether celebrating at home or traveling.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal is reminding people to celebrate the Fourth of July responsibly and legally, and the agency’s message is clear: “Keep it legal. Keep it safe.”

Fireworks regulations in Lane County vary strictly depending on your exact location. All aerial and exploding fireworks are illegal statewide, while local city limits and unincorporated county areas have outright bans on using any consumer fireworks. Check the specific regulations for your area.

  • The Rule: The sale, manufacture, and use of all consumer fireworks are prohibited in unincorporated areas of Lane County during declared fire season (which typically begins by July 1).
  • Penalties: Violating the county ordinance can result in fines of up to $1,000, 30 days in jail, or both.
