Don’t let fireworks send your pet running this Fourth of July, McKamey warns

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Fireworks may light up the sky this Fourth of July, but they can also send frightened pets running from home.

McKamey Animal Center is urging Hamilton County pet owners to make a safety plan now, saying shelters across the country see a spike in lost animals every year after Independence Day celebrations.

The shelter says even normally calm pets can panic when fireworks begin.

To reduce the risk, McKamey recommends keeping pets indoors, setting up a quiet room where they can feel secure and using music, white noise or a television to help mask the sound of fireworks…
