Northwest Ohio fire departments prepare for extreme heat, urge public safety

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Ohio (WTVG) – Fire departments across northwest Ohio are taking precautions ahead of rising temperatures this week and urging the public to do the same.

Springfield Township Fire Department Assistant Chief Andrew Sauder said preparation begins before firefighters even arrive for their shift.

“A lot of it starts with preparation the night before their shift, even the day prior to their shift, by ensuring that they are hydrating, drinking lots and lots of water, ensuring we got coolers full of ice ready to go, ice packs,” Sauder said.
