MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Arkansas forest landowners can now apply for a piece of the $2 million the Arkansas Department of Agriculture set aside to fight the southern pine beetle and to replant Arkansas hardwoods. The department will accept applications for the cost-share program through August 14, 2026.
The Southern Pine Beetle Prevention Program assists landowners with thinning overstocked pine stands to reduce the risk of outbreaks. The southern pine beetle has been called the most damaging pest to forests in the South.
Eligible practices include commercial thinning for pulpwood and hips, non-commercial thinning, and prescribed burns. Each landowner can apply for up to $10,000. Properties must contain at least 10 contiguous acres of pine. More information on the program can be found here…
