4th of July in central Arkansas: Where to go for fireworks and events

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – As Arkansas heads into the 4th of July weekend, lots of things are going on around the Natural State.

JULY 3, FRIDAY

CONWAY: The city’s Lights over the Lake will take place at Beaverfork Lake, beginning at 3 p.m. and capping off with a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. Activities include raffles, live music, food trucks and, of course, games.

Red Cross urges heat safety ahead of July 4 heat

BENTON: The city’s Red, White and Boom Independence Day celebration begins at 7 a.m. at the River Center Parking Lot. A Kid Zone will be in place, as will a military display and live music. What organizers promise to be the “Longest fireworks show in Saline County history.”

JULY 4, SATURDAY

LITTLE ROCK: The annual Pops on the Riverfeatures food trucks and vendors, a military appreciation tent, and a patriotic concert by the Kemistri Band, featuring Nicky Parrish, Rodney Block and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. At 9:15 p.m., the Pops on the River fireworks will light up the Main Street Bridge. Gates to the First Security Amphitheater open at 5 p.m., but organizers recommend getting there early for the best parking. More at its webpage.

LITTLE ROCK: Frontier Fourth of July at the Historic Arkansas Museum from 10 a.m. to noon, featuring a mini-parade, sack races, lemonade and a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

LITTLE ROCK: The Arkansas Museum of Fine Art is hosting a docent-led tour, showing the contributions of American artists in its galleries.
