Man shot by deputy while holding ‘miniature samurai swords’ charged with assaulting public servants

Arrest records have identified the man shot by a Bexar County sheriff’s deputy after approaching authorities with “miniature samurai swords” during an apparent mental health episode in his northwest Bexar County neighborhood.

According to an arrest affidavit, Dahn Thanh Dinh, 38, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant in connection with the June 23 incident. The offense is a first-degree felony punishable by up to life in prison.

Dinh was taken to a hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and buttocks, the affidavit states. He was not magistrated until Sunday, when he was booked into the Bexar County Jail and bail was set at $200,000…
