TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Troy man was sentenced to prison on Tuesday in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in 2025. 27-year-old Juan Rivera was sentenced to 25 years in state prison with five years of post-release supervision.

Rivera was convicted of manslaughter by a jury trial on May 12. The conviction stems from the incident that took place on April 21, 2025 on Third Street in the City of Troy, during which Rivera stabbed 47-year-old Kevin Hall, Jr., of Troy, in the chest with a knife, killing him.
At trial, Rivera admitted that he was at the location where he committed the homicide and he engaged in an argument regarding a missing marijuana blunt. Rivera, along with other individuals who witnessed the stabbing, were squatting in the abandoned apartment, according to the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation was led by the Troy Police Department, which located Rivera at a hotel after the stabbing. Flock automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras were used to locate the vehicle Rivera had fled in hours after the stabbing.
