North Carolina jail administrator accused of giving inmate AR-15, taking inmate home for involuntary labor

MADISON COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said it first learned in 2025 of allegations involving a former jail administrator who is accused of pointing a gun at employees, giving an inmate a rifle and forcing the inmate to work at his home.

Officials said the agency received information on Oct. 6, 2025, regarding 42-year-old Bronis “Coy” Phillips, who served as a chief deputy and administrator at the Madison County Detention Center.
