A tragic alligator attack in central Florida has claimed the life of 31-year-old Brittany Clark, whose harrowing final moments were captured in chilling 911 calls and a detailed medical report.
Clark was hiking in Little Big Econ State Forest with her boyfriend, Chance Allison, and another friend when they decided to swim in the Econlockhatchee River on Sunday afternoon. According to the 911 recording, an alligator suddenly attacked Brittany, severing both of her arms while she was in the water.
The frantic audio reveals Chance desperately trying to fend off the predator as he called emergency services. Amid screams and cries, he tells the dispatcher he is “still trying to get her arms away from the alligator’s mouth.”
Moments later, he reports that both of her arms have been torn off, with her friend confirming one arm was barely attached and the other missing entirely. Chance urgently pleads for help, describing the attack as “bad, real bad.”
He recounts dragging Brittany from the water alongside their friend, noting they were far off the trail near a river launch area. The operator advises him to try to flag down a rescue helicopter if one passes by. Unfortunately, despite Chance’s efforts and CPR performed on shore, Brittany succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.
The medical examiner’s report confirms the group was swimming in shoulder-deep water when the alligator grabbed Brittany and performed a “death roll,” a brutal maneuver used by alligators to overpower prey by twisting and attempting to drown them underwater. Chance intervened by grabbing the alligator, momentarily freeing Brittany’s arm, but the animal then seized her other arm. After a struggle, the alligator released its grip, allowing Chance to bring them to shore and call for help.
In response to the incident, wildlife officials euthanized and decapitated the alligator, preserving its head as evidence. Authorities have closed Barr Street Trailhead, the popular hiking area where the attack occurred, until further notice as the community mourns this devastating loss.
