Grovetown announces proposed property tax increase, public hearings scheduled

GROVETOWN, Ga. (WJBF) – The City Council for the City of Grovetown on Tuesday announced its intention to increase 2026 property taxes levied this year by adopting a millage rate of 6.948 mills.

“The proposed millage rate of 6.948 mills is the same millage rate adopted by the City in the previous fiscal year. However, because the proposed millage rate exceeds the calculated rollback rate of 6.797 mills, Georgia law requires that the difference be advertised as a property tax increase and that public hearings be held prior to adoption,” the City of Grovetown said in a statement. “While the City is proposing to maintain its current millage rate, increases in assessed property values have resulted in a rollback rate lower than the current millage rate. Under Georgia law, maintaining the current millage rate is considered a tax increase and requires public hearings, even though the City is not proposing to increase the millage rate itself.”
