Docs: Traffic stop of food delivery driver led to multi-county vehicle pursuit

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis food delivery driver was arrested after a traffic stop reportedly led to a multi-county vehicle pursuit that resulted in the man crashing his car into a tree line off of U.S. 52 in Boone County.

According to court documents, Jordan De’Sean Carter was charged in Tippecanoe County with:

  • Two counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon, each a Level 5 felony
  • Five counts of resisting law enforcement while using a vehicle, each a Level 6 felony
  • One count of criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony
  • Misdemeanor count of reckless driving

On June 22, Carter was pulled over in a black Cadillac CTS with a blackout plate as he was picking up food for a delivery near the Tippecanoe Mall. According to an incident report, the traffic stop was first initiated after a reported violation.

During the stop, officers reportedly told Carter to put his phone on the dash and place his hands on the steering wheel. The documents claim that after an officer opened the driver’s side door, Carter reportedly put the car in drive and “took off at a high rate of speed,” causing an officer to be dragged by the vehicle and almost hitting another officer with the back of the car.

After Carter drove from the scene, a vehicle pursuit began. Eventually, the pursuit went south on U.S. 52 through Tippecanoe and Clinton counties at speeds exceeding 100 mph. It ended in Boone County when Carter crashed his vehicle in a tree line, according to court documents…
