Mount Vernon agrees to pay fired police chief $65,000 to settle lawsuit

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The town of Mount Vernon has agreed to pay its former police chief $65,000 to settle a federal lawsuit.

Eric Pettway alleged that the town violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by failing to pay overtime. He also alleged that the mayor fired him as retaliation for complaining about the alleged overtime violation.

Attorneys for Pettway and the town asked a judge Tuesday to approve the settlement…
