ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Special Olympics New York athletes did a tremendous job representing the state of New York in the Special Olympics USA games in Minneapolis, Minnesota last week. It was an incredible showing on the national stage with the athletes taking home 54 medals!

The competitors from across the country took part in sports including softball, gymnastics, powerlifting, swimming and tennis. 18 athletes from right here in the Capital Region made our state proud, snagging 8 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals.
Overall, 82 Special Olympics New York athletes, 31 dedicated coaches and 11 hard working staff members were involved in the Special Olympics USA games. The athletes displayed great courage, resilience and determination, pushing themselves and discovering they’re capable of more than they ever imagined! Congratulations to all involved!
