Belvidere teen accused of causing $20K in damage to Riverside Ice Arena

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) – A 17-year-old from Belvidere faces a felony charge for allegedly causing thousands of dollars in damage to Belvidere Park District property.

Police say around 10 p.m. Sunday, June 28, someone damaged equipment that cools the ice at Riverside Ice Arena in Doty Park. Investigators estimate it will cost around $20,000 for cleanup and repairs.

Officers say they were able to narrow in on the 17-year-old suspect through the help of park security cameras. The teen was interviewed and arrested June 30 on a charge of unlawful damage to state supported property. They were later released to a parent…
