A classic 4th of July forecast

No records will be broken on the 4th of July but it will be hot. It will be a great day to go swimming, whether in your pool or at the lake. This will be the kind of forecast you think of on the 4th of July. Fire danger is always there in Northern Nevada, but wind speeds will be typical, and light for much of the day. Highs will range from the mid 90’s in the Truckee Meadows to the mid 80’s around Lake Tahoe.

Key Points:

  • Hot temperatures
  • Feeling like summer
  • Typical afternoon breezes
  • Moderate fire danger
  • 10% chance of a stray shower or storm

Good news, more than likely we’ll be able to see the fireworks, with wind speeds slowing down by 9 pm. It will still be breezy in Reno/Sparks around 8 pm due to the Washoe Zephyr, but nothing out of the ordinary. There might be a short delay, but other than that wind won’t be a problem.

It will be warm in Reno with temperatures in the mid 90’s during the day and around 80 degrees at 10pm. Skies will be mostly clear. In Tahoe City, temperatures will be in the lower 80’s during the day and 50’s by 10 pm. It will be chilly with mostly clear skies and light winds. South Lake Tahoe will be a touch warmer than Tahoe City.

There is a minor to moderate heat risk this weekend for Northern Nevada, but nothing too extreme. Reno and Carson City will have a moderate risk, while it’s a minor risk at Tahoe…
