Tips to stay safe around fireworks this Fourth of July

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — With the Fourth of July coming up this weekend, the time for fireworks has officially begun.

The state of Michigan’s Ordinance allows people to fire them off at certain times and dates. For this year, the state of Michigan allows fireworks between now and the fourth, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 11:45 p.m.

6 News spoke with the Lansing Fire Department, and they have several recommendations to keep yourself, and others, safe while you celebrate. First off, they recommend sticking to public displays — to stay safe and see something more spectacular. But if you are planning to light off fireworks at home, make sure to have water nearby, and to back away quickly after lighting the fuse.
