MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Investigators believe the Prichard Police Department failed to test dozens sexual assault kits. The Mobile County Sheriff’s office began the process of cataloging and evaluating all kits this week after taking control of the evidence room in connection to a public corruption probe. Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch says it appears the department allowed the critical evidence to sit on shelves instead of sending it off to a lab to be tested.
“They’re just tossed on the floors, and some are on shelves, not labeled,” said Burch.
