The California coast is having a rough stretch for its biggest visitors.
The Marine Mammal Center reported that two humpback whales were found dead in the Bay Area over nine days in June. The first turned up June 20 at Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County, and the second was spotted June 23 at Martins Beach, just south of Half Moon Bay in San Mateo County.
Both deaths remain a mystery. No necropsy was performed on the Point Reyes whale, and scientists could not reach the second carcass because of where it came to rest, leaving the cause undetermined in each case…
