The Catholic archbishop of San Antonio has said he will no longer allow priests from the local chapter of the Society of St. Pius X to minister or preside over weddings after the Vatican on Thursday excommunicated the group’s bishops and priests.
In a statement posted on the Facebook page of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller instructed local Catholics not to attend Mass conducted by priests from the local chapter held at St. Joseph Chapel, off Jackson Keller Road on the North Side.
García-Siller described the society’s ordaining of four bishops without the required papal approval — done Wednesday at its seminary in Econe, Switzerland — as an “act of schism” which has “deeply wounded the unity of the Church.”…
