University Health was already planning two new hospitals in San Antonio: one on the South Side and another on the far Northeast Side. Now, with $90 million of additional funding, the two hospitals are set to expand months before they even open.
The Bexar County Hospital District Board of Managers, which governs University Health, authorized using $60.7 million from a projected construction budget surplus and $30 million from the hospital’s reserve funds to add patient beds and exam rooms to University Health Palo Alto and University Health Retama campuses.
The decision came “after analyzing the expected patient care volumes at each hospital and taking into account continued population growth in both of these areas,” University Health President and CEO Edward Banos said.
