July 4th forecast calls for hot, hazy and possibly stormy conditions

Northern Coloradans should prepare for a hot and hazy — and possibly stormy — Fourth of July weekend.

Temperatures are expected to be in the low- to mid-90s Friday through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. There’s a small chance of thunderstorms the afternoon of July 4, according to the forecast.

Here’s the full weekend forecast for Fort Collins as of the afternoon of July 2:

  • Friday, July 3: Sunny with a high of 92 and light wind of 5-9 mph with gusts up to 16 mph.
  • Saturday, July 4: Mostly sunny with a high of 90 and a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. The evening is forecast to be mostly clear with a low of 59, and the fireworks show at City Park is on, weather permitting.
  • Sunday, July 5: Sunny with a high of 94.

Smoke from multiple fires burning in Colorado, Utah and Arizona prompted the Colorado Department of Health and Environment to issue an air quality alert through at least the afternoon of July 2 for the northern Front Range, including Fort Collins.
