Milton’s haunted history: Exploring the city’s ghostly past

Capt. Ken Ponsell has traveled almost every nook and cranny of the waterway.

“Me and my wife would come out here and watch sunsets every day and fell in love with it and said, ‘Why wouldn’t somebody else fall in love with it?’” Ponsell said.

So they started Blackwater Bay tours, a boat ride sprinkled with history, mystery, and a whole lot more, including how the river got its name 4,000 years ago by the Choctaw Indians.

“In their native tongue, they called it the Okaloosa. Okaloosa in native Choctaw meant ‘water black.’”…
