City of Amarillo announces ongoing street maintenance projects ahead of 2026 program

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The City of Amarillo announced Wednesday that street maintenance work is ongoing throughout the city, with multiple projects currently in progress and additional ones set to begin as part of the 2026 Street Maintenance Program.

According to COA officials, work is set to begin soon in the Belmar, Puckett, Puckett West, Creighton Park, and Vineyards neighborhoods, as well as on select arterial streets throughout Amarillo. This season’s maintenance activities will include residential microsurfacing, arterial microsurfacing, cape seal treatments, and mill and overlay operations. The preventative measures aim to extend the lifespan of the streets, improve driving conditions, and protect the city’s investment in its roadway infrastructure

Tree trimming is already underway in some areas to prepare for construction. Officials said if a street is scheduled for maintenance, trees that could interfere with construction equipment may need to be trimmed. Tree trimming may also be required along arterial streets, including portions of the downtown dispersal streets and Wolflin Avenue from Civic Circle to Washington Street. Amarillo Municipal Code requires tree branches to be at least 14.5 feet above the street. Trees that do not meet this requirement may be trimmed by the City’s contractor at no cost to the property owner. Officials noted that contractor trimming is performed to meet ordinance requirements and may not reflect your preferred appearance.
