Wooster City Schools receives food grant

The Wooster City School District has been awarded a $15,000 grant through the Wayne County Community Foundation in collaboration with the American Heart Association. The funding will expand the district’s efforts to address food insecurity and provide nutrition education for students and their families.

One essential step to preventing heart disease is eating a healthy diet. The partnership between Wooster City Schools and the American Heart Association supports both organizations’ goals of increasing access to healthy foods and addressing barriers to nutritious meals for students and families.

With this funding the American Heart Association of Northeast Ohio plans to provide Wooster City Schools with refrigeration units that will expand the district’s ability to provide heart-healthy foods to students. Currently, the district maintains pantries at the high school and middle school through partnerships with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and the Wooster Hope Center. This new investment will allow the district to establish similar food pantries at additional buildings, significantly increasing accessibility and meeting the needs of a larger population…
