East Cleveland man displaced after apartment floods during water main repair

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A man says he returned home to find his basement apartment flooded with roughly a foot of dirty water after Cleveland Water crews repaired a nearby water main, and he has been searching for somewhere to live since.

Robert Jackson rents a basement apartment in East Cleveland. He said his landlord called him on June 23 while he was out of town. When he returned, the apartment was filled with standing water and mud.

‘It messed up everything’

“This is how high it was in here,” Jackson said, pointing to the bottom of the tub in his bathroom. The water had seeped over the tub walls and left dirt on the bottom.

Jackson said the flooding destroyed his furniture, including a loveseat he had recently purchased. The item is now sitting by a dumpster outside the building. What remains on his floors is a layer of caked mud…
