(FOX40.COM) — Friends of Folsom Parkways works year-round to remove fire fuel like weeds and vegetation from vulnerable forest areas across the community. However, twice in the past couple of weeks, thieves have set back the organization’s progress by dumping their clippings and debris back into the forest and taking their 15 bins overnight.
FOX40 spoke with Glenn Hermanson, the organization’s special projects director, about this incident and his team’s mission.
“Friends of Folsom Parkways is a 100% nonprofit organization and we’ve dedicated hundreds of hours cleaning up this area to try to create a healthy urban forest,” Hermanson said. “There are two main components to this healthy urban forest. One is we reduce the fire fuel in this area so that if a fire occurs, it won’t kill the trees, but the second thing to do is remove the non-native invasive plants that have grown through here…
