Days before the United States celebrated its 250th birthday, two Army veterans celebrated their own milestone: becoming the second-ever class to graduate from the 19th Judicial District Court’s Veterans’ Treatment Court.
Standing in white robes before an assembly of family, supporters, court staff and fellow veterans, graduates Cydney Muhammad and Shaquille Robinson accepted certificates Thursday showing they’d completed the post-conviction program.
The Veterans’ Treatment Court is just one of several recovery courts that operate in the district court, each intended to provide support to inmates or parolees whose crimes were caused in part by some negative contributing condition, like drug and alcohol abuse or mental illness…
