Not many people can remember what they were doing on a random day more than two years ago. Trey Ahern, sadly, can.
On the morning of April 30, 2024, Ahern says he was driving on C-470 on his way to see his father at the University of Colorado Hospital, where his dad was in his final days of a battle with pancreatic cancer.
“I was just racing out to the hospital, and I think I recognized that I-25 was backed up, so I was like, ‘I think I’m going to jump in the express lane and take the toll road,’” Ahern said. “And at that point, I knew the penalties— they were advertised. It was like, ‘Okay, I’ll take the ticket, it’s worth getting out to see Dad quicker.’”…
