Flood watch hits Lancaster county after storms leave 30,000 dark

Lancaster County is bracing for another round of severe weather after storms Saturday night left thousands of residents without power and downed trees and branches across the region. A flood watch has now been issued as forecasters warn additional storms could bring heavy rain and damaging winds through the weekend and into next week.

What the forecast shows

According to the National Weather Service office in State College, the region should expect the following conditions over the coming days.

  1. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through Sunday, becoming more likely by Sunday night.
  2. Some storms have the potential to turn severe, bringing heavy downpours and damaging wind gusts.
  3. Thunderstorms are likely to persist until around 2 a.m. before transitioning into steady heavy rain overnight.
  4. Additional rain, along with possible thunderstorms, is expected to return from Monday night through Tuesday night.
  5. Forecasters estimate between 1 and 2 inches of rain could fall across Lancaster County Sunday night alone.
