Hendel: Lobster dinner takes over Toledo Club

SUMMER is in full swing.

THE Toledo Club was buzzing with energy and life during its 5th annual Summer in Maine dinner on June 23. The rooms in the 144-year-old club were filled with excitement, setting the stately club up for a comeback, said Laura Berling, event chairman. About 250 or so people were in attendance this year, and the dining room overflowed into a few other rooms. The decibel of chatter was so high, there was no need for entertainment.

Dr. Patrick McCormick once again sponsored the cost of all the lobster. He and Laura Berling traveled to Maine last summer to scout out possibilities for the Toledo Club’s party and found a lobster crepe recipe, a delicious new addition straight out of Bar Harbor, Maine. While she was at it, she bought a sweater with a lobster on the front, for this year’s party. The menu also included lobster rolls, mussels, New England Clam chowder, tomato salad, biscuits, cornbread, baked beans, fried cod, and blueberry pie…
