Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation lends out free all-terrain wheelchairs at four spots. People who need mobility help can grab one. You can book them on the web, walk in, or pick up the phone.
Eastway and Nothern Regional Recreation Center has them. So do Latta Nature Preserve, Reedy Creek Nature Preserve, and Stevens Creek Nature Pre-Reservations are being accepted now, and the ATWs will be available for use beginning Monday, Nov. 18. Reservations can be made by phone or in person at five Park and Recreation facilities:

- Quest at Latta Nature Preserve, 980-314-7878

These electric wheelchairs roll on two tracks, not wheels. That means you can cruise across bumpy trails and rough ground without getting stuck.
