ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — Imagine you did a school project for America’s bicentennial. Then, nearly 50 years later, you were reunited with that project. That’s exactly what happened to one man from Athens. And it happened right in time for America’s 250th anniversary.
A family member’s trip to an antique store in Tennessee led to an unexpected discovery for Roy Patton. He said she found a handmade quilt that had his name stitched into it. One phone call to Patton later, she bought it and brought it back to him.
That quilt turned out to be a class project Patton had helped make as a second grader at Julia Newman Elementary School as part of a bicentennial project…
