Around a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms kicks in after about 8 a.m., with most of the real action expected inland this afternoon and evening. Forecasters are calling for frequent lightning, brief but heavy downpours, and a few storms capable of producing isolated wind gusts up to about 45 mph.
