Baltimore St. Agnes Ascension nurses go on strike again as contract negotiations continue

Nurses from Baltimore’s St. Agnes Ascension Hospital are continuing their push for a labor contract with management as they held a one-strike on Monday to bring attention to issues that they say are harming patients and putting nurses in dangerous situations.

The nurses gathered outside the hospital with a DJ and picket signs to bring attention to staffing issues, assigning nurses to wards where they don’t have expertise and poor nurse-to-patient ratios.

“The real issue is safe staffing, which they refuse to address,” said Chachi Blackburn, a nurse in the labor and delivery ward. “They refuse to address safe floating practices. They’re floating medical surgical nurses to a mother/baby unit. They’ve never taken care of babies or moms immediately postpartum. It’s unsafe.”…
