Two proposed Portland ballot measures have moved closer to qualifying for the November ballot after proponents Monday submitted tens of thousands more signatures than required to the city.
Backers of a proposal to redirect money from the city’s clean energy fund to support police turned in more than 62,000 signatures, while supporters of an initiative that would give Portlanders the ability to decide how the city spends millions every year submitted more than 78,000.
City elections staff will now determine whether the two measures have met the threshold to qualify for the ballot. Although both totals far exceed the 40,437 signatures necessary to qualify, a portion of the signatures are expected to be deemed ineligible, such as any duplicates…
