Walker County Animal Shelter Launches “Empty the Shelters” Adoption Event as Shelter Reaches Capacity

The Walker County Animal Shelter is encouraging the community to adopt a pet during the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s nationwide “Empty the Shelters” adoption event, which runs from July 5 through July 26.

Shelter officials say they are in urgent need of adopters after experiencing a significant increase in animal intake. Since reopening to normal operations just 10 days ago, the shelter has taken in 61 new animals, while only 14 have found permanent homes.

To help place more pets with loving families, reduced adoption fees are being offered throughout the event. Dogs and cats older than four months can be adopted for $25, while adoption fees for puppies and kittens four months old and younger have been completely waived…
