A stranger tried to claim ownership of Lee Gilley’s vacant Heights home. Deputies are investigating.

Deputies entered the Houston home of murder suspect Lee Gilley with the help of a locksmith Monday after a man attempted to take ownership of the Heights residence.

The house in the 800 block of Allston Street was left vacant following Gilley’s escape from the U.S. to seek asylum in Italy. He was facing a capital murder trial in Houston for the October 2024 death of his pregnant wife, Christa Gilley, whom authorities believe was strangled.

Records show that a Houston man named Matthew Jackson, who has no connection to the Gilley family, filed paperwork claiming he was the new owner of the home. The same documents were taped to the inside of windows and doors in the home when the parents of Christa Gilley checked on the home last month…
