Kristi Noems Airport Videos Ordered Deleted by New Homeland Security Chief

Additional Coverage:

Former Homeland Security Secretary Noem, who was removed from her position in March amid heavy criticism over her stringent enforcement of former President Trump’s immigration policies, has since vanished from the public spotlight. Known for her hardline approach, Noem earned a reputation as one of Trump’s most relentless enforcers.

Her successor, Markwayne Mullin, has reportedly taken steps to erase Noem’s visible presence within the department. According to a report from the Daily Beast, Mullin’s office sent an email to U.S.

Customs and Border Protection officials last week requesting the removal of any airport videos featuring Noem. The message urged prompt deletion and confirmation once completed.

One notable video in circulation showed Noem addressing Transportation Security Administration workers during the government shutdown last year, when TSA employees were required to work without pay for several weeks.

Since being sworn in on March 25, 48-year-old Mullin, a former senator from Oklahoma, has moved swiftly to dismantle elements of Noem’s legacy. Among his actions was scrapping a fleet of approximately 2,500 branded ICE vehicles that Noem had authorized. Agents had expressed concerns that the conspicuous branding compromised operational security by drawing unwanted attention.

In contrast to Noem’s high-profile style, Mullin has adopted a lower-key approach. Despite this shift, enforcement efforts remain robust. According to a July 1 report by The New York Times, ICE conducted a major operation resulting in over 10,000 arrests in just five days, targeting individuals during immigration check-ins, traffic stops, and street encounters.

Insiders describe Mullin’s strategy as a deliberate move toward “quieter and smarter operations,” aiming to fulfill Trump’s objectives for mass deportations without provoking the public backlash seen under Noem’s tenure. A source familiar with Department of Homeland Security discussions told Politico that this approach marks a welcome change.

Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, echoed this sentiment, noting that Mullin has effectively ended the public spectacle associated with previous leadership.

As the department transitions under new management, the emphasis appears to be on operational efficiency and discretion, signaling a significant shift in how immigration enforcement is conducted at the highest levels.
