Major Mebane traffic artery closed for road work

A busy thoroughfare to the immediate south of the freeway in Mebane is currently closed, undergoing a series of replacement and maintenance work following the damaging effects of Tropical Storm Chantal last summer. As a result, adjacent roadways, such as N.C. Highway 119 and Mebane Oaks Road, have been considerably busier over the past few weeks.

Back on June 8, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) closed a small stretch of road adjacent to the intersection of Jones Road and Old Hillsborough Road, next to Garrett Elementary School.

This patch of Old Hillsborough Road – sitting in a low-lying area – was affected significantly by Tropical Storm Chantal last July, experiencing heavy flooding. Crews are currently repairing pipes under the road, as well as the road itself. At the present time, bulldozers are other excavation machines are onsite at the area, making the necessary repairs leading up to the deadline at the end of this month…
