LOS LUNAS — Less than two months after the State High School Track & Field Championships, Alexjandro Bachicha, of Los Lunas, was back in the starting blocks at Albuquerque Academy.
Who would have guessed that 58.39 seconds after the starting gun went off, Bachicha would set an age-group USA Track & Field New Mexico record in the 400 meter hurdles?
“I never ran the 400 hurdles once in my life,” said Bachicha, who competes in track and football at LLHS.
After all, during the high school season, 300 meters is the longest hurdles event that athletes compete in. Bachicha found that the extra 100 meters, leaping 10 hurdles instead of eight, makes a huge difference…
