Scattered hit-or-miss showers and thunderstorms are expected again this afternoon and evening, though coverage may be slightly lower than recent days, with a few storms still capable of becoming strong to potentially severe.

Fayetteville and Lumberton Lead the State in Afternoon Heat

Whiteville and Lumberton are forecast to reach 96 to 97 degrees, among the hottest readings in the state Wednesday. Fayetteville, Wallace and Clinton will also see highs near 95 to 96 degrees, keeping much of southeastern North Carolina under intense afternoon heat.

Charlotte, Monroe and Troy will run slightly cooler in the mid-90s, still hot enough to fuel scattered afternoon storm development statewide.

Northeast North Carolina Stays Cooler Behind a Weak Front

This front is not expected to bring widespread rain, but it will keep temperatures a few degrees lower across the northeastern corner.
