Pensacola medical malpractice lawsuit leads to change at a local hospital

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — One Pensacola woman had her life turned upside down when she was told she had stage four breast cancer after an appointment at Baptist Hospital said it was benign.

Deborah Higgs received yearly mammograms as recommended, but before her appointment back in February of 2022 at Baptist Hospital, she had worries about a small lump she’d felt in her breast.

“I went in for that appointment, got the letter, said everything is normal, you’re fine,” said Higgs. “So, I went off doing my things knowing that I had something that I was concerned about, but they’re telling me it’s fine.”

Her gut instinct was correct. Eight months later, after seeking a second opinion, Higgs was hit with the news that not only did she have breast cancer, but it had grown to stage four…
