Flash flooding and severe storms possible throughout parts of Mid-Atlantic on Thursday

BALTIMORE, Md. — Forecasters are warning of potential flash flooding and severe weather across parts of the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday as a tropical air mass brings strong thunderstorms and heavy downpours to the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch from 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. Thursday for Washington, D.C., along with central and western Maryland and northern Virginia.

Meteorologists say the incoming storms will be capable of producing torrential rainfall, with rates potentially reaching 2 to 3 inches per hour. The heavy precipitation could cause excessive runoff, leading to the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Urbanized locations along the Interstate 95 corridor and areas that have received significant rain recently are considered the most vulnerable to flash flooding…
